Huddersfield Town have signed experienced striker Grant Holt on an emergency loan from Championship rivals Wigan Athletic until 8 November inclusive.

The 33-year-old has been named on the Town bench to face Millwall this afternoon after signing his deal yesterday afternoon.

Wigan Athletic hold a recall clause after the first 28 days of the loan deal have elapsed.

The Latics paid Norwich City £2m for the powerful Cumbrian in July 2013, but he has struggled to make in impact.

The former Halifax Town striker spent time on loan at Premier League Aston Villa last season.

With James Vaughan currently sidelined, Town manager Chris Powell has been desperate to boost his frontline options.

And he will hope Holt, who has also played for Workington, Barrow, Sheffield Wednesday, Rochdale, Nottingham Forest and Shrewsbury Town, will link up effectively with Nahki Wells.

Powell told the club website: “We’ve made no secret of our desire to strengthen our forward options and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to secure the services of an experienced Championship forward in Grant ahead of Saturday’s game.

“Entering the loan market is difficult, as a lot of clubs are competing for a very small pool of the same players.

Grant’s spell at Wigan hasn’t worked out as he wanted, but aside from that he has scored goals at every club he has played for.

“He is a good character who arrives at our Club with a point to prove.

“He looks in good shape and adds a physical presence to our forward line, which I feel we need to complement and help the likes of Nahki Wells.”

Carlisle-born Holt has played just once this season, away at Burton Albion in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
