SIMON GRAYSON is reported to be on Blackburn’s wanted list – but Huddersfield Town remain confident of keeping their manager.

Championship rivals Rovers, who visit the John Smith’s Stadium a week tonight, have already lured £8m strike star Jordan Rhodes to Ewood Park.

And sources across the Pennines suggest Grayson, an ex-Blackburn player whose son Joe is on Rovers’ books as a junior, has climbed the list of potential successors to Steve Kean, who left the former Premier League club on September 28.

But sources close to Town say there has been no approach from Blackburn, and that Grayson is focused on maintaining an encouraging start to the club’s first Championship campaign in 11 years.

The former Blackpool and Leeds manager succeeded Lee Clark as Town boss in February and guided Town to a dramatic League I play-off final penalty triumph over Sheffield United at Wembley in May.

He has since rebuilt the squad with the financial backing of owner-chairman Dean Hoyle, and despite losing their last two games at Peterborough and Millwall, Town will go into Saturday’s home clash against Bristol City in ninth place.

Ambitious Hoyle and Grayson enjoy a healthy relationship, while any manager taking over at Rovers would have to deal with the breakdown between supporters and the club’s controversial Indian owners Venky’s.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, former Tottenham chief Harry Redknapp, one-time Blackburn favourite Alan Shearer and ex-Manchester United ace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are among the other names being linked with Rovers, who failed in a bid to bring in Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood.

Currently under the caretaker managership of Eric Black, Blackburn are fifth after Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Watford. They go to Crystal Palace, another cub without a manager, on Saturday before visiting Town next Tuesday.

Meanwhile the FA have confirmed that Town right-back Jack Hunt will serve a two-match ban for his red card for foul and abusive language at Millwall. The 21-year-old will miss the games against Bristol City and Blackburn but come back into contention for the visit to Barnsley.

“I let my team down and the fans. I’m sorry for my actions. I’ve learnt a lesson and it won’t happen again,” he said.

Town had Sean Scannell, Paul Dixon, Tom Clarke and Ian Bennett in their side as they lost 2-1 to Leicester in the Under 21 Professional Development League II at home last night. Jordan Sinnott equalised after Martyn Waghorn put Leicester ahead, but Jeff Schlupp got the winner.
