Huddersfield Town have confirmed academy goalkeeping coach Ian Bennett’s move to Nottingham Forest.

As revealed in the Examiner a month ago, the 43-year-old has ended a five-year association with the John Smith’s Stadium club.

He will become Under 21 goalkeeping coach at Town’s Championship rivals Forest.

The search for his successor at PPG Canalside is ongoing.

Signed from Sheffield United, Worksop-based Bennett had four seasons as a Town player before moving into coaching 12 months ago.

He made 74 Town appearances, his 500th senior game coming against Oldham Athletic in February 2011.

After being on the books of QPR and Newcastle United, Bennett made his senior debut with Peterborough United.

He later played for Birmingham City and Leeds United as well as having loan spells at Sheffield United (before joining them permanently) and Coventry City.

He made 556 senior career appearances in total.

Nick Colgan is Town’s senior goalkeeping coach.

Bennett said: “The five years I have spent at Huddersfield Town as a player, and more recently a coach, have been brilliant.

“I have had the pleasure of working with a fantastic set of people and the friendships formed over the years have made this a very difficult decision.

“I would like to wish Huddersfield Town every success and thank everyone at the club for their support over the years.”

Town academy manager Mark Lillis added: “We’re all sad to see Ian leave, as he has taken to his new off-the-field role as we knew he would.

”He has made a big contribution during his 12 months working with our young goalkeepers under Nick Colgan.

“Ian is a popular figure with everyone at the club and we’d like to wish him all the best for the future.”
