Huddersfield Town's sale of defender Jack Hunt to Crystal Palace could signal a pre-deadline dip into the transfer market.

But sources suggest it’s unlikely the John Smith’s club will ‘break the bank’ as manager Mark Robins aims to build on an encouraging start to the Championship season.

Town, being linked with Coventry’s Cyrus Christie, Sheffield United’s Harry Maguire, Oldham’s James Tarkowski and Telford’s Jake Bennett, head to Barnsley this afternoon in seventh place but without right-back Hunt, who is putting the finishing touches to a reported £2m switch to South London.

The 22-year-old academy product has made 121 Town appearances, scoring four goals, but has not started any of the last four games, with Adam Hammill taking the right wing-back slot in a new-look formation.

Hunt, who made his Town debut in January 2011 after a loan spell at Chesterfield, is joining a club aiming to record a first win of the Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland in today’s tea-time clash.

Boss Ian Holloway is also said to be close to landing strikers Nicklas Bendtner (from Arsenal) and Jimmy Kebe (Reading) and said: “I need some players across the line.”

Meanwhile Town supporters will be keen to see whether an addition is made before Monday night’s 11.00 cut-off, with boss Robins, who had previously said any incoming deal would depend on a player leaving, describing the situation as “fluid”.
