Jason Davidson has missed out on the chance to face England's hottest strikers in a friendly at the Stadium of Light.

The defender has been left out of the Australia squad to take on the Three Lions as part of the preparations for Euro 2016.

And it does not appear to be good news for Davidson's international future, with Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou using the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

While England will be featuring the players that, barring injury setback, will be on the plane to France, Australia are missing key men thanks to Asian club commitments.

Aziz Behich, who has missed out on a place in the last two squads, has been called back in from the cold to challenge Brad Smith at left back.

Davidson has made 22 appearances for his country since his debut in 2012, but missed out in March for the most recent World Cup Qualifiers, with Postecoglou choosing to name 19-year-old Alex Gersbach instead.

And with Gersbach unavailable this time due to club duties with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg, Davidson will be concerned for his future in the side.
