Huddersfield Town defender Tommy Smith turned his sights on getting back on track with a win in next weekend’s derby test against Barnsley at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Smith admitted that Town’s performance had been below par in the 2-0 home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday, but felt that there could be no better incentive than putting the record straight against another of their Yorkshire rivals.

“It’s very important that we get back on track next weekend against Barnsley,” said Smith.

“We need to get back to winning games on a regular basis.

“We will go back to the training ground this week and aim to have a good week.

“We need to work hard and sort a few things out and we will go into next weekend’s game determined to do well and get three points.”

And Smith felt that the Town team knew just what had to be done after a demoralising defeat at the hands of the Owls.

“It was disappointing and I think everyone could see how disappointed we were,” said Smith.

“We wanted to follow on from last week’s win at Birmingham, but we didn’t and we just weren’t good enough.

“But we are a good side and we have some good players, but we need to take our chances and score goals if we are going to win games.

“We have done that on a number of occasions this season, but we have to do it on a more consistent basis.”
