Huddersfield Town fans are already looking forward to next season in the Championship but want to enjoy the final throes of this campaign with some fresh faces being given a chance by manager Chris Powell.

Tuesday night’s goalless draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium means Town are mathematically safe with three matches to play – the next of which is against promotion-chasing Derby County at home on Saturday.

Powell mixed youth and experience on the bench against Brighton, with loan men David Edgar and Radi Majewski joining Jonathan Hogg and keeper Joe Murphy alongside the emerging trio of Murray Wallace, Joe Lolley and Jake Carroll.

Chris Green, from Dalton, is looking forward positively.

“I am satisfied with this point (at Brighton) because it has guaranteed Championship football for another season,” he said.

“It could have ended in spectacular fashion for the Terriers though, if Nahki Wells’ eight-yard shot had not hit the woodwork before the lengthy chunk of stoppage time.

“Our penultimate home fixture of the campaign against fifth-placed Derby County promises to be a cracker, so I can’t wait for the weekend.

“Strenuous effort will be required from the lads though, because the Rams are heading into the game in high spirits after their emphatic 4-0 win over already-relegated Blackpool in midweek.”

Richard, a Kirkburton-based fan, wants to see the manager take advantage of the fact Town are now safe.

“Good point at Brighton. The defence played well again, which is excellent for the future,” he explained.

Mark Hudson is back to form and Alex Smithies is now showing command of his area.

“Now we are safe I would like to see Chris Powell giving Lolley a chance to show what he can do.

“Powell does seem not to be able to substitute under-performing players to allow fringe players to get game time.

“Town have a great future but the manager needs to have more confidence in players like Joe Lolley and it would pay great dividends.

“Another year in the Championship, though, and the players deserve credit for working hard. Well done lads.”

Arthur, from Shepley, added: “A disciplined performance. We seem to have found a cohesive way to press teams and defend for 90 minutes.

“Well done to the captain (Hudson) for leading the back line.”
