Travelling Huddersfield Town fans have the chance to visit a new ground in the English Football League Cup.

Tuesday’s first-round tie against Shrewsbury Town is at Greenhous Meadow, home to the League I club since 2007.

Town’s last meeting with the Shrews was during the 1994-95 Division II (now League I) promotion campaign.

Neil Warnock’s side were beaten 2-1 at the Salop club’s old Gay Meadow base on the banks of the River Severn.

The Greenhous Meadow has an all-seated capacity of 9,875.

The record attendance at the stadium is 9,441 for the League II promotion-clinching 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge in April 2012.

But the biggest crowd to attend an event there was more than 15,000 for an Elton John concert in June 2011.

Shrewsbury were beaten 1-0 by visitors MK Dons in front of 5,452 in their season-opening League I game on Saturday.

It’s Town’s second League Cup meeting with Shrewsbury.

Back in 1985-86, when the first round took place over two legs and both sides were in Division II (now the Championship), Town won 3-2 at Gay Meadow but lost 2-0 at Leeds Road.

In 1980-81, Leeds Road hosted an FA Cup third-round tie between the pair, when Town lost 3-0 and used three different goalkeepers.

Andy Rankin started the game but was forced off with concussion after 38 minutes.

Striker Steve Kindon took over, but when the visitors went two up early in the second half, manager Mick Buxton but the big man up front and Mark Lillis between the posts.

Town have played 10 league games at Shrewsbury, winning just one and drawing three.
