Huddersfield Town fans are happy to have a point on the board but want a more positive approach from manager Chris Powell against Brighton tomorrow night and in the important matches to come.

While supporters wait to find out if goalkeeper Alex Smithies will make a £1.5m switch to Championship rivals QPR, there has been both positive and negative reaction to the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Chris Green of Dalton falls into the positive camp.

“Registering our first point of the campaign and delivering a much-improved performance from the midweek shambles in the League Cup is more we could have hoped for - so I am satisfied,” he said.

“If we can repeat that level of performance (against Brighton), then there’s no reason why we cannot get the first win under our belt.”

Big Dan from Birkby countered that and had some criticism for the boss.

“A point is a point when all is said and done, but the three were there for the taking,” he said.

“Powell’s inability to change things cost us. Scanz was knackered after an hour and Blackburn subs changed the game for them.

Delfouneso scored only seconds after coming on after being teed up by a fellow sub. Come on Powell, sort it out.”

Mick from Wakefield, commenting on www.examiner.co.uk , said: “A good solid performance but as a team we lacked flair and cohesion when going forward.”

Steve from Batley echoed: “Plenty of effort and skill shown, especially from Butterfield and Scannell, but still worrying that we are going to struggle this season, even at this early stage.”

Roger, from Menston, was down the same lines.

“Better overall but still not good enough to win many Championship games,” he reflected.

“Too little ambition, but is that the players or the manager?

“Makes Brighton more important to win with two very hard games to come.”

Chris, from Liversedge, felt the performance wasn’t good enough after Nahki Wells had given Town a 10th-minute lead which was wiped out in the second half.

“We played with intensity for 20 minutes in the first half, otherwise it was dull and pedestrian,” he said.

“Powell continues to play one player down the left side – all league goals conceded have come from crosses from that side.

“Powell’s negativity is beyond belief. Playing for a point against a poor team with 20 minutes left is shameful, especially after the horror show last Tuesday.

Dean Hoyle needs to look at the dwindling crowd numbers and ask himself why would someone pay good money to watch Town under Powell?

“They wouldn’t, and are voting with their feet. Add to the lack of entertainment the poor results, and Powell has to be under pressure.”

Joe, from Marsh, summed up: “Needed to press home our early advantage but, for some reason, we seemed to lack confidence and, in truth, the necessary guile to take advantage of what I saw as average opposition.”
