After revealing our own Huddersfield Town starting XIs for the 2014/2015 season, we encouraged Terriers fans to give us their thoughts on who would be selected if the season started tomorrow.

After assessing the results of the survey, the team is as follows: (4-4-2) Smithies; Peltier, Gerrard, Lynch, Dixon; Hammill, Clayton, Norwood, Ward; Vaughan, Wells.

There were four primary contenders in terms of the formation, with 4-2-3-1 (14.62%), 4-1-2-1-2 (19.23%) and 5-3-2 (26.15%) all proving popular but the tried and trusted setup of a 4-4-2 prevailed with a 33.08% majority share of the vote.

From choosing the formation, Town fans who voted for the 4-4-2 then went for current No.1 Smithies over new signing Joe Murphy with 70% v 30% of the vote. Neither of Town's young keepers Lloyd Allinson or Ed Wilczynski managed to obtain a single vote.

Right-back was similarly unanimous, with a massive 88.10% of fans opting for new signing Lee Peltier in his more conventional right-back role, while young Tommy Smith received 11.9%. Adam Hammill was not considered for the position.

Each central defensive option was chosen by at least one Town fan, but it was Joel Lynch (45.24%) and Anthony Gerrard (38.10%) who emerged as winners.

Paul Dixon was the favourite in the left-back position with 80.95% but Smith, a right-back by trade, was the second most popular choice with 14.29%.

Midfield was far more closely fought, with Joe Lolley the closest to stealing in on either flank. Adam Hammill accrued 64.29% on the right but Lolley was the only other to achieve double figures as a percentage on that flank, with 28.57%.

Unsurprisingly Adam Clayton dominated the central midfield vote, amassing a huge total of 73.81% but Oliver Norwood and Jonathan Hogg 46.34% and 29.27% respectively. The other popular choice was young Duane Holmes, who will surely be delighted to have been selected by 4.88% of fans.

The left wing was even tighter than the opposite side of the field, with those that didn't select Hammill on the right choosing him for a less conventional role (21.43%). Lolley secured 33.33% but it was Danny Ward who came out on top with 40.48%.

As soon as the formation was decided on, there were no surprises about who the two names would be up front, with the club's marquee signings from last summer and January leading the line.

With two CF positions listed within the survey, Vaughan narrowly came out on top due to his combined percentage (83.33% + 16.67%) across both fields to Wells' own 80.95% and 16.67%.
