AFC Emley open their competitive season tomorrow with an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

It’s a derby against Barnsley rivals Athersley Recreation (3pm).

The tie has been re-arranged from the previous day as Emley Clarence have pitch priority during the cricket season.

Officials are hoping that Huddersfield Town supporters will take the opportunity to make the trip up to Emley to support the village club – one of the smallest to participate in the famous competition.

Athersley compete in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, one step above Emley, who went so close to promotion last season; losing the Division 1 play-off Final at Bottesford through an injury-time equaliser and a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Emley are boosted by the return of Aaron Joseph and Liam Schofield during the close-season, both members of the 2012/13 squad who reached the last 32 of the FA Vase.

Emley have had a successful series of pre-season friendlies, beating Hall Green United, Shelley, Halifax Irish and drawing against Evostick Northern Premier League Brighouse.

They also beat Frickley Athletic, who are three divisions above them.

The only defeat was against Huddersfield Town Under 21s, a match which was watched by Town manager David Wagner and attracted numerous Town supporters, possibly watching the stars of the future, and brought in much needed finance.
