Jack Senior is currently with the Huddersfield Town first team in Marbella, having come through something of an audition in the 3-1 weekend win at AFC Guiseley.

Senior lined up on the left of a midfield four in Chris Powell's experimental lineup at Nethermoor and sufficiently impressed to suggest he will be handed further chances to shine.

The 18-year-old's breakthrough came last season, featuring prominently in the Under-18s' run to the semi-finals of the Professional Development League 2 as well as featuring for the U21 side in their own Pro League final defeat to Swansea City.

Powell is hopeful the young left-back can offer competition to first choice Jason Davidson this season, with Town short in that position after the departure of reserve Jake Carroll earlier this summer.

But which other academy youngsters can emerge this season and start to come into Powell's thinking for the 2015/16 campaign?

Take a look at five contenders below.

Jack Boyle

Widely heralded as the star man in the U18 setup, Boyle looks to be a fantastic prospect and certainly has the technical qualities to thrive at the top level.

He can play anywhere in the '3' of a 4-2-3-1 but is best deployed in the No.10 role, where he is able to drive forward with the ball at speed and slip passes into the likes of Ronan Coughlan and Rekeil Pyke, who he links up with so effectively.

Boyle, who has been with the club since the under-10 stage, suffered a knee injury prior to the 2014/15 season which threatened to curtail his progress but he finished it with a starting role in the U21 side's narrow 3-2 loss to Swansea.

Regan Booty

The captain of the under-18s last season and capped a fine season by signing his first professional contract with the club on his 17th birthday having been converted from a left-sided player into a composed figure at the base of midfield.

Booty is measured with his passing and is also assured in the challenge too, but his set piece delivery is the standout feature of his game and was a key source of goals for the academy side in 2014/15.

He is trying to compete for a place in an area of the team where Town are well-stocked but having penned his long-term deal, Booty is all set to carve out a career for himself at the club and his versatility could prove very useful.

Rekeil Pyke

Like Boyle, Pyke was one of the key assets in the U18 side last season and it seemed significant that both he and Boyle, alongside Senior, were named in the U21 starting lineup in the final against the Swans.

The 17-year-old joins Booty in having put pen to paper on renewed terms with the club this calendar year and is another who has truly come through the ranks having started out at under-12 level.

He finished last season with 11 goals in total, one clear of Boyle after netting in the semi-final exit to Brentford but it was an impressive return from the forward, who is able to play the lone role due to his physical presence but also has the pace and awareness to stretch defences by running in behind.

Ronan Coughlan

The Irish striker signed around 18 months ago but was forced to wait until July to formally complete his move by receiving FIFA international clearance and was quickly rewarded for some fine form in front of goal with the offer of a pro contract back in November.

Coughlan finished third behind Pyke and Boyle in the goalscoring charts last season at this level, with his return of eight goals plus strike for the under-21s against Sheffield United and Coventry City to join Pyke (5), Boyle (4) and Senior (1) in achieving the feat.

He is versatile - like Boyle - in that he can play both out wide and as a No.10, although his preferred position is as a striker and he certainly has the penalty-area poise to progress there, even if he has had to sacrifice himself slightly with Pyke leading the line as a solitary spearhead.

Jacob Hanson

With each of the previous four having been in the squad for the Swansea final, the temptation would have been to add the fifth member - central defender Danny Kane - but right-back Jacob Hanson's eye-catching performances last term give him the nod here.

Indeed, his athletic displays from right-back saw him join Pyke and Booty in agreeing a new deal last season and he certainly has the attacking qualities to offer Town an added dimension in that area of the field having initially plied his trade as a striker and then a winger.

Powell is a huge fan of the pace and power Sean Scannell brings to his side in wide areas and, though Hanson's game has now become slightly more refined due to his new position, he offers this in abundance as well as offering possibilities in various positions, including central defence.
