HUDDERSFIELD Town kick-off the new season with a trip to Nottingham Forest but then have Harry Redknapp’s relegated Premiership big guns QPR as the first Championship visitors to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Sandwiched between those two games is the Capital One Cup home clash against last season’s beaten finalists Bradford City, so it’s a cracking introduction to the 2013-14 campaign for Mark Robins’ men.

The Forest opener is on Saturday, August 3, with Bradford visiting Huddersfield on Tuesday 6 and QPR’S multi-million pound squad following on Saturday 10.

The big derbies against Leeds United are at home on Saturday, October 26, while Town travel to Elland Road on Saturday, February 1, immediately after a midweek slog down to newly-promoted Bournemouth!

Christmas looks attractive, even though Town are away at Brighton on the Saturday before, December 21.

Skipper Peter Clarke and the squad will face Derby County at home on Boxing Day (a Thursday) and then face play-off winners Yeovil Town at the John Smith’s on Sunday, December 29.

They then kick-off 2014 with a New Year’s Day visit to Burnley (a Wednesday) before the third round of the FA Cup the following Saturday.

Boss Robins said: “The Championship is going to be a very tough league once again this season.

“Forest away is a tough fixture at any stage of the season and it is a very tasty one to open the season with.

“We return to pre-season next week and we will make sure that the players are fully ready to hit the ground running on August 3”

Town have fewer midweek matches this season because of the early start, but that will be no consolation when they visit Middlesbrough (Tuesday, Oct 1), Bournemouth (Tuesday, Jan 28) and Charlton (Tuesday, March 11).

Robins added: “Our opening month will be difficult as will the ones that follow!

“The games are broken up nicely during the opening three months with international breaks, which will allow the players, managers and fans a brief respite before the busy Christmas campaign.”

They are also away at Yeovil Town on Easter Monday, April 21, although the fixture lists are drafts at this stage and subject to change at any stage up to Friday, June 28.

The international breaks come on September 7, October 12 and November 16 but there are none towards the end of the season, when Town conclude their programme with a trip to Watford on Saturday, May 3.

Town visit relegated former Premiership club Wigan Athletic – the FA Cup holders who beat them in that competition last season – on Saturday, November 2, with the reverse fixture on Saturday, February 2. Reading visit the John Smith’s on December 14, with Town on the road to the Madejski on Saturday, March 29.

After the Forest opener, Town’s next three away League trips are to Millwall, under new manager Steve Lomas, Barnsley with Dale Jennings and Blackburn Rovers with Jordan Rhodes.

Four of Town’s last five opponents are Derby, Brighton, Leicester City and Watford and that looks a very tough finale.
