The fixtures for the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship season are out, with Huddersfield Town heading to Hull City on opening day.

The opening month of the season sees Town play at home three times against Blackburn Rovers, Brighton and Hove Albion and QPR, with a home Capital One Cup tie against Notts County on top of that, while there is also a trip to Fulham to squeeze in to the schedule.

We asked our Town writer Doug Thomson to pick the five key opponents for Town next season.

Here are his picks for 2015/16, which include bogey sides, teams who the Terriers haven't faced in a while and a side who have plenty of links to Town.

Hull City

Home: Saturday, April 9

Away: Saturday, August 8

It doesn’t seem long since Town and Hull were doing battle in the basement division.

But since 2003-04, the Tigers have had two spells in the Premier League.

Ex-Town boss Steve Bruce is having to reshape his squad following relegation.

But bookies make his side second-favourites behind Derby to win the Championship.

Town will be aiming for a first win in their fifth visit to the KC Stadium on opening day.

Derby County

Home: Saturday, October 24

Away: Saturday, March 5

The Rams’ promotion push might have tailed off under Steve McClaren.

But Paul Clement’s move from Real Madrid, where he was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, to Pride Park has helped make the Rams title favourites with the bookies.

Harold Macmillan was Prime Minister and Denis Law an emerging talent last time Town won at Derby.

Law grabbed two goals, one of them a penalty, in the 4-2 Division II (now Championship) success.

In terms of home clashes, April’s 4-4 draw will take some topping, but Town v Derby games have generally been entertaining.

Leeds United

Home: Saturday, November 7

Away: Saturday, March 19

Leeds might have won the last three A62 derbies – but Town still hold sway in the series.

They have taken the spoils in 26 of the 64 league meetings going back to 1924.

Adding to that total, and preventing Leeds increasing their tally of 21 victories, will be high on Chris Powell’s ‘to do’ list.

The 3-0 setback at Elland Road early in his reign really hurt Town’s boss.

But it acted as a wake-up call, with Town then going on a seven-match unbeaten run.

Preston North End

Home: Saturday, December 26

Away: Saturday, February 6

A grand old football rivalry will be renewed thanks to Preston’s promotion under Simon Grayson.

The man who took Town into the Championship in 2012 will be making his first return.

His skipper is Tom Clarke, and there are other ex-Town men in his squad in striker stars Jermaine Beckford and Joe Garner and full-back Calum Woods.

The 87 previous meetings between these two include two FA Cup finals (one win apiece).

The 2015-16 meetings will be the first in league football since 2011-12, when Town won 3-1 at home and North End won 2-1 at Deepdale.

Queens Park Rangers

Home: Saturday, August 29

Away: Monday, December 28

They’ve been trying since 1968, and have yet to succeed.

Town’s bid for a first league win at Loftus Road, where they have lost on nine of their previous 11 visits, is back on the agenda after Rangers’ relegation.

They gave Harry Redknapp’s Hoops a run for their money in Shepherd’s Bush back in January 2014, but ended up losing 2-1.

The John Smith’s Stadium clash in 2013-14 resulted in an entertaining 1-1 draw.

The fact that Powell and Rangers boss Chris Ramsey are old mates adds to the appeal of this fixture.
