Huddersfield Town's Ian Benntt is still going strong - at 42!

It's the veteran Town keeper's birthday, making him one of the oldest registered players in the Football League.

Born in Worksop, Bennett began his career at QPR after originally playing junior football as a winger.

He then had a spell at Newcastle, where he was a teammate of Lee Clark, the manager who brought him to Town in 2010.

Bennett's senior debut came after he joined Peterborough, whom he helped win promotion from the old Fourth and Third Divisions in 1991 and 1993 respectively.

A £325,000 transfer took him to Birmingham in December 1993, and he topped 350 appearances for the second city club, winning promotion from what is now League I in 1995.

Leeds came calling in 2005, and Bennett had  four years at Sheffield United before joining Town, where he has played under three different managers.

Hailed by current first-choice keeper Alex Smithies for the help and advice he has provided, Bennett made his 500th career appearance when Town hosted Oldham in a League I game in February 2011 - and kept a clean sheet!

His most recent of his 74 Town outings was in last season's 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round replay win at Leicester.

Bennett still has some way to go to become Town's oldest ever player.
