Huddersfield Town will visit Sheffield United for a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 29 (7.45).

It will be the first meeting between the sides since the 2012 League I play-off final at Wembley.

Keeper Alex Smithies put away the crucial penalty as Town won 8-7 in a shoot-out after a goalless extra-time draw.

Town have finished 19th and 17th in the two Championship campaigns since while the Blades have been fifth and seventh in League I.

Town’s last appearance at Bramall Lane was in September 2011, when Lee Novak (2) and Oscar Gobern sealed a 3-0 League I win.

Both clubs have changed managers since Wembley, with Mark Robins replacing Simon Grayson at Town and Nigel Clough taking over from Danny Wilson at Bramall Lane.

United have just signed Livingston striker Marc McNulty for an undisclosed fee and Notts County winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce on a free transfer.

The sides met in a friendly back in 2008, when former Blade Danny Cadamarteri and Keigan Parker sealed a 2-1 Town win in front of 4,146 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town have already announced four other pre-season dates.

They will visit Guiseley on Monday, July 21, Scunthorpe on Saturday 26 and Oldham on Saturday, August 2 before hosting Newcastle on Tuesday 5.
