HUDDERSFIELD Town’s hopes of their junior side reaching the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup were dashed as they were beaten 2-1 at Queens Park Rangers.

Town manager Chris Howarth made two changes for the tie at Loftus Road with Max Leonard coming back into the side in attack after missing the weekend defeat at the hands of Leeds United, and James Burke was included in central defence.

Town made a very bright start to the contest, but they were rocked back on their heels on 20 minutes when Bruno Andrade opened the scoring for Rangers with a well-placed header.

The lead was short-lived and Town pulled level when striker Leonard found the net with a thunderous shot from 25 yards out.

Town went close to taking the lead when Joe Wright was narrowly wide with an effort following a Jordan Sinnott free kick.

However, with the game possibly edging towards extra time, the home side managed to get back in front with a goal from Frankie Sutherland.

Soon after the Hoops went close to ensuring their place in the fourth round but Town keeper Lloyd Allinson saved well from Andrade and Allinson was back in the action again as Rangers pushed forward to try and conclude the contest as he made another good stop from Marcel Henry-Francis.
