Huddersfield Town remain in the driving seat over Danny Ward, despite reported interest from rival Championship clubs in the frontman.

The John Smith’s Stadium club have offered the 23-year-old a new contract, but under the terms of his current deal, have the option of a 12-month extension.

It’s been suggested Championship rivals Ipswich and Wolves are both interested in the former Bolton player.

But they would have to come up with an offer big enough to tempt Town, who reportedly paid around £1m to sign him in 2011.

Bradford-born Ward scored 10 goals in 40 games (29 starts) this season, boosting his haul with a hat trick in the final game at Watford, which Mark Robins’ side won 4-1.

He was also on target when Town went down 2-1 at Ipswich in December.

Ward, who has played as both a wide and central frontman, joined Town permanently after a loan stint at the end of the 2010-11 League I campaign.

Brought in to replace the injured Anthony PIlkington, he scored three times in 10 appearances, featuring in all three play-off games (against Bournemouth in the semis and Peterborough in the Old Trafford final, when Town lost 3-0).

He was signed permanently after Pilkington joined Norwich in a £3m package deal that summer and in total, has made 126 Town appearances (91 starts) and scored 21 goals.

He was in the starting side when Town beat Sheffield United on penalties in the 2012 League I play-off final at Wembley.

That provided a first final success in three attempts after he featured for Swindon, when on loan from Bolton, in the 2010 League I final against Millwall, who won 1-0 at Wembley after beating Town in the semis.

Ward, who had spells at both Bradford and Leeds before joining Bolton in 2009, also had a stint on loan at Coventry while with Wanderers, for whom he made two Premier League appearances, both from the bench.

Ipswich, managed by Mick McCarthy, finished ninth in the Championship this season.

Kenny Jackett led Wolves to promotion back to the second tier at the first attempt, his side winning the League I title.
