TOWN Ladies remained fourth in the North-East Regional Women’s League Premier Division with a 3-1 win over York City Ladies.

Playing on the artificial 3G pitch at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Sports College, Town bounced back from the previous week’s 4-2 defeat by Guiseley Ladies.

The home side started strongly and created half a dozen chances in the first half hour, but could not find a finish.

They eventually made the pressure tell when good work from Katie Barnes was finished neatly by player of the match Emily Heckler.

Town struck again in the 44th minute when Kate Mallin worked the ball down the left and crossed for Barnes to finish.

York pounced on defensive confusion to pull a goal back five minutes into the second half.

But former Doncaster Rovers Belles player Heckler netted her second to seal the victory with two minutes remaining.

Town, who trail leaders Whitley Bay by six points, go to Barnsley Ladies on Sunday (2.00).

Bay were beaten 1-0 at home to Sheffield United Community Ladies while third-placed Barnsley Ladies won 4-1 at Guiseley.

The Reserves were 7-0 winners over Leeds side Amaranth in the West Riding Women’s League Second Division.

Jo Atkinson grabbed a hat trick and Raegan Cartledge a double while Jody Brinkworth and Leanne Entwhistle also scored.

Next up for the second string are Nostell MW away on Sunday (2.00).

The Under 12s complete their West Riding Girls’ League fixtures at Burley Trojans on Saturday aiming to hit back after a 9-1 defeat at Hebden Bridge.

Due to illness and unavailability, Town could field only five players for a seven-a-side match.

Amy Thompson got the consolation goal in the 47th minute.
