HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies progressed to the semi-finals of the Women’s County Cup with a 5-0 win over at Guiseley.

Town made the best possible start as they scored after three minutes when a good passing move involving Dominique Balmond, player of the match Abbie Mullen and Kate Mallin ended with a good finish from Emily Heckler.

Mallin scored the second four minutes later following good work from Hannah Leech and Debbie Hastings down the right.

On 17 minutes Heckler hit the Guiseley crossbar with a direct free kick, but with half an hour gone Guiseley had their first real chance of the game and should really have pulled a goal back with a shot wide from close range.

Guiseley played in a more determined style in the second half and Town’s defence did well to cope with their attacks.

Town extended their lead in the 72nd minute, again following a passing move involving debutante Alice Linsell, Balmond and Mallin, which Heckler finished well.

In the 78th minute, Katie Nutter was unlucky when her strong shot hit the Guiseley crossbar.

However, two minutes later Hastings scored Town’s fourth and with three minutes of the game remaining Heckler completed her hat trick following a fumble from the Guiseley keeper.

Town will face Castleford White Rose Ladies in the semi-final at Woodlesford on Wednesday, March 13.

On Sunday the first team return to league action when they travel to Sheffield United Community Ladies (2.00).

Town’s reserves were without a game after their match was postponed, but on Sunday they are at home to Wigton Moor at Grange Moor (2.00).

Town’s Under 15 side were also 5-0 winners away at Hoyland Town.

Facing Hoyland for the second time in consecutive weeks, having notched a 4-0 in the first meeting, Town started strongly and created a few early chances which they were unable to convert.

Town kept pushing and the breakthrough came through when Amy Thompson turned neatly in the box to fire a left foot shot into the net.

Hoyland pushed to get back into the game but the Town defence coped well, and the visitors went further ahead when a good run from Katie Lockwood and a great finish ensured they were 2-0 in front at half-time.

Hoyland put up more of a fight in the second half and put the Town defence under some pressure.

However, Town were pushing forward and looking to see the game off when a great run into the box saw Lockwood brought down and she converted the penalty to make it three.

Town then went on to grab another two goals with Thompson netting her second of the game and Jess Holland notching her third goal for the club.

Town’s player of the match was centre back Emily Morris with another solid display and another clean sheet for the Town defence.

On Saturday the Under 15 side are at home to Aston Swallownest at Grange Moor (10.30).
