TOWN Ladies Under 18s found the going tough at top-of-the- table Barnsley, being beaten 5-2.

The Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls League First Division game started evenly.

But it was Barnsley who made the breakthrough by taking the lead after 15 minutes.

Town came storming back and a minute later Alice Linsell fired home with a strong shot into the roof of the net.

The visitors then gained the upper hand and went in front after 24 minutes when a deep cross from Nicole Pachniuk was controlled by Linsell, who cleverly beat the keeper with a cool finish.

The opening half continued with Town on top, but just before half-time Barnsley equalised from close range.

The second half started poorly for Town and the home team took the lead after 49 minutes.

From that point on Barnsley dominated and added two more goals.

Hayley Clarkson was named player of the match for her commitment and effort.

The Under 18s have no game next weekend.

The Under 15s, who had no fixture at the weekend, take on Aston Swallownest at Grange Moor on Saturday (10.30).

The Under 13s were 2-0 winners over Wickersley Youth.

The match started evenly with neither side able to gain any real control.

But on 13 minutes Amy Broomhead scored Town’s opener when she ran clear to slot the ball past the keeper.

Ella Harris had a goal disallowed for offside five minutes later.

Town continued to press but had to be wary of the speedy Wickersley attack.

Player of the match Imogen Pow made some telling challenges to help stop Wickersley creating any clear-cut chances.

In the final minute of the first half Broomhead put Town further ahead when she followed up a fierce shot which the keeper could only parry.

In the second half Wickersley were the better team, although Town had another goal ruled out for offside when Kacey Buckley’s shot rebounded off a post and was slotted home by Bethany Wadsworth.

There is no fixture this weekend.
