HUDDERSFIELD TOWN today made Dundee United left-back Paul Dixon their second close-season signing.

The former Scotland Under 21 star has agreed a three-year deal to join the Championship challenge after shining in the Scottish Premier League.

Dixon, who started out at United’s arch-rivals Dundee, follows former Crystal Palace frontman Sean Scannell into the Galpharm.

And boss Simon Grayson is delighted at his latest piece of business, saying: “Paul turned down a number of other Championship clubs to join us, which I believe speaks volumes.

“He is a left-back with lots of games behind him and he also has international experience. He will be a good addition to our squad for the upcoming season and many beyond.”

Aberdeen-born Dixon came through the Dundee youth system and made 11 appearances, scoring twice, before moving to United.

By that time, he had played twice at Under 21 level and in February 2010, was named in the full Scotland squad for a clash with the Czech Republic.

Out of contract at Tannadice, he played 145 times for United and has made no secret of his desire to move South of the border.

He helped United finish fourth in the SPL last season and boss Peter Houston said of him: “He has great pace and technical ability and his workrate is second to none.”

Dixon joins compatriots Scott Arfield and Murray Wallace in Town squad and will hope to feature alongside striker Jordan Rhodes in the full Scotland squad next season.

Town have played down the latest round of speculation linking hot shot Rhodes with Premier League new boys Reading, who are said to be willing to send former loan centre-back Sean Morrison back to the Galpharm as part of any deal for the 22-year-old.

Cardiff and Town will now kick-off the new Football League season after Sky Sports’ decision to screen the big Championship clash live on Friday, August 17 (7.45). As a result Town have brought forward their Capital One Cup first-round tie at Preston by 24 hours to Monday, August 13 (7.45).
