IT’S been quite a few days for everyone at Huddersfield Town.

First of all, I would like to wish Lee Clark all the very best for whatever he does in the future.

Obviously I was still on the playing staff when Lee came to the club and he was always great with me.

I will never forget how he helped me when I was coming up to my retirement because he was very, very supportive.

And he remained so as I took on my current role with the club – we had a very good relationship – so I hope all goes well for him in the next stage of his career.

Back here at Town, it’s important everyone pulls together now to make sure we achieve this season what we set out to achieve.

We have a very experienced man in Mark Lillis to guide us forward for however long it takes until a manager is appointed.

I have known Mark since I was starting out in my career and he was the youth coach, and I previously watched him at the old Leeds Road ground when he was a fantastic favourite among our fans.

He was an excellent player and now he’s an excellent coach with vast experience at all the highest levels of the game.

It’s amazing that he returned to the club only a few weeks ago to take on the job of Academy manager and now he is preparing the first team for this coming Saturday’s home clash with Exeter City.

How quickly things can change around in football!

With Mark in charge, we are definitely in good hands for now, which gives the chairman, Dean Hoyle, and his board whatever time they need to choose someone for the full-time post.

As far as the players are concerned, they have had a free weekend to come to terms with the departure of Lee and get themselves focused on playing football once again and the task of picking up vital points.

The news will have taken some sinking in, but it didn’t surprise me to see Mark’s comments that he had had a very positive reaction from them in training.

Like he said, they are good players and good characters and they realise the industry we are in.

Mark will put on some very good sessions and I’m sure everyone will be ready to go come Saturday.

IT’S understandable that everyone will be keen to find out who is going to be the next manager – especially the players because they will be working for him.

But the most important thing at the moment is that the squad don’t lose focus on the football.

The lads had a strong relationship with Lee Clark because he brought most of them to the club, but they now have a very important job over the next two or three months in making sure our club gets to where we want to be.

Whoever comes in, it’s vitally important the players give 100% to the cause.

There will be some new ideas on certain things, I’m sure, because that’s the nature of the game, but it’s amazing how quickly players can adapt.

We have to do that extremely quickly because, having picked up only two points in three matches since our last win, we need to get back to winning ways and pushing for that top-two placing again.

We are in a great position in the League I table with 16 matches to go and we have still got everything to play for.

We could be in a better position, obviously, and Charlton are going to take some pegging back by anyone, but there is at least one automatic promotion place there for all the challengers to aim for.

We need to make sure it’s Huddersfield Town who grab it.

I have said all season that I believe we have the best squad in the division.

We have definitely got the players on our books who can complete the job of winning promotion.

Starting against Exeter City on Saturday, it’s time to start putting those points on the board – and doing it in threes.
