Reports linking outgoing Brentford sporting director Frank McParland with Huddersfield Town appear wide of the mark.

Town are considering their options in replacing Southampton-bound football operations chief Ross Wilson.

But sources suggest final decisions are still to be made on the exact role Wilson’s successor will have, thus influencing the final choice.

Wilson is currently in a transition phase, and is still carrying out duties for Town before becoming full-time director of scouting and recruitment at Southampton this summer.

He has been with Town since August 2012 after previously working for Falkirk and Watford and joined the board at the start of 2014.

McParland was placed on gardening leave by Brentford in February, when it was announced manager Mark Warburton would be leaving at the end of the season.

Town’s Championship rivals, who are pushing for the play-offs, want to restructure their management system and become more ‘European’.

Huyton-born McParland was Liverpool’s chief scout from 2003 until 2007, before becoming general manager at Bolton Wanderers then chief scout at Watford.

In 2009, he returned to Liverpool to lead the club’s continental-style academy, staying in that position until November 2013.
