Huddersfield Town are being linked with former Fleetwood Town striker David Ball.

And teenage Shrewsbury Town winger Josh Ginnelly is another reported target.

Boss Chris Powell, who this week brought in experienced former Middlesbrough midfielder Dean Whitehead, is believed to be looking for a back-up striker.

And Ball, who played under Powell’s first-team coach Steve Eyre at both Manchester City and Rochdale and is available on a free, could fit the bill.

Manchester-born, the 25-year-old came through the junior ranks at City and helped them win the FA Youth Cup under Eyre in 2008.

Unable to break into the first team, he had a loan stint with Swindon Town before joining Peterborough United in a permanent deal in January 2011.

Ball came on as a late substitute when Peterborough United beat Town 3-0 in the 2011 League I play-off final at Old Trafford.

He scored 11 goals in 45 games (14 starts) for the Posh, and was loaned to Rochdale during the 2011-12 season, when Eyre was manager.

He has spent the last three seasons at Fleetwood, and helped them win promotion to League I in 2014.

His Wembley play-off final appearance against Burton Albion was one of 112 for the West coast side, for whom he has notched 30 goals.

Eyre was instrumental in bringing the likes of defender Tommy Smith and forwards Harry Bunn and Ishmael Miller to Town.

Ginnelly, 18, was with Aston Villa before joining Shrewsbury.

He has made just three substitute appearances for the League II side.

But his pace, trickery and crossing ability have been widely noted.

Admission to the friendly against League II Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday, July 25 will be £10 for adults and £5 for 16s and under.
