Huddersfield Town are being linked with Dean Whitehead.

The versatile 33-year-old is out of contract at Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

Former Oxford United, Sunderland and Stoke City man Whitehead has been at Boro for two years.

This season, he played 25 times, deputising at right-back and providing midfield cover for former Town man Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter.

That flexibility would prove appealing to Town, while boss Chris Powell is keen to add experience to his squad.

Whitehead started all three of Boro’s recent play-off matches (they beat Brentford over two legs before losing to Norwich City at Wembley).

Having stated his desire to stay at the Riverside Stadium in the immediate aftermath of the Norwich game, he later tweeted: “Loved my two years at Boro. Onto the next challenge.”
