Huddersfield Town loan player Emyr Huws has been pipped for the September Championship Player of the Month award – by a former club hero.

Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes was chosen for the Skybet honour after scoring five of his side’s seven goals in the month.

Rhodes’ individual effort in the 2-2 draw at QPR was described as ‘breathtaking’, while he was cited for lifting Rovers into mid-table despite having just returned from injury.

Huws was nominated for making a fantastic impact at Town and for scoring four goals from midfield during his loan spell from Wigan Athletic.

He too is just back from injury and has had to get used to a new playing style and new colleagues, but even though his efforts have earned a recall to the Wales World Cup squad the judging panel still went for Rhodes.

The other Championship nominees who missed out were Reading striker Nick Blackman and Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala.

On the judging panel were Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Skybet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
