Chris Powell can press on with plans to reshape his Huddersfield Town squad after confirmation the club have been operating within Financial Fair Play guidelines.
It means Town, currently working on their latest set of annual accounts, can operate without restriction during the January transfer window, the first of Powell’s tenure.
The boss, whose side are 17th in the Championship going into Saturday’s home clash with Birmingham City, has already said he expects to be busy next month.
He has so far brought in just two loan men, Grant Holt and Diego Poyet.
Midfielder Poyet is back at West Ham United while influential striker Holt has three more games before he returns to Championship rivals Wigan Athletic.
The frontline is a priority for Powell, whose side, beaten 5-0 at Norwich City on Saturday, aim to hit back with a fifth win in eight home games against Brum.
The Football League have hit three second-tier sides, Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, with transfer embargoes.
That’s after they failed to comply with rules allowing a maximum ‘deviation’ of £8m, consisting of a maximum operating loss of £3m plus £5m of shareholder investment, during 2013-14.
Officials also said they were in ongoing discussions with a number of other clubs.
But Town aren’t one of them, and are therefore free to operate without restriction during January.
Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We are delighted the Football League has confirmed the club fulfilled the Financial Fair Play requirement last season.
“With lots of speculation surrounding Championship clubs who may or may not fail the test and three clubs already facing embargo in January, we can solely focus on improving our position without the disruption and damage caused by external constraints and restrictions over our transfer activity.”
This season’s maximum permitted deviation has dropped to £6m (£3m operating loss plus £3m shareholder investment).
But Championship clubs have voted to dramatically increase allowable losses to £13m moving forward.
