Huddersfield Town have been rocked by news that defender Joel Lynch could be out at least a couple of weeks.

The 27-year-old Welsh international was forced off late in the defeat by Leeds United and could now sit out several matches, with Millwall and Wolves on the immediate horizon.

Boss Chris Powell, however, has goalkeeper Alex Smithies back in training after illness and also revealed leading scorer Nahki Wells looks like being fit for Saturday’s trip to The Den.

“Lynchy had a scan which is not too positive and it’s looking like he’ll be out at least a couple of weeks if not more,” said Powell, who could include new striker signing Ishmael Miller for the first time at Millwall.

“It’s a real shame because Joel had got himself going again and was exceptional at Wigan, so we were looking for him to carry on in the side, but it seems he could be missing three or four games.”

Powell added: “It’s a hamstring and groin problem and Joel is a big, powerful player, so when you have problems in the central core area like that and you are such a big man, you have to make sure you are 100%.

“He’ll have to take his time to get right, but hopefully he’ll be able to play a part in the run-in.”

Town trained behind the Fantastic Media end goal at the John Smith’s yesterday because PPG Canalside was frozen up.

“Nahki Wells injury turns out to be just a bruised foot, which is very, very good news and he does have a decent chance for Saturday and the Wolves game the following Tuesday,” added the boss.

“It was a shame he had to go off so early against Leeds because it cut down our options later in the game, but everything is clear and he looks like being okay.

“It’s the same with Alex, who took a couple of days to get over an illness bug but is now back training with us and feeling fine.”
