Huddersfield Town are making progress on recruiting Ross Wilson’s replacement.

Interviews have been carried out to fill a key football operations role which will be mainly recruitment orientated.

Wilson, a Town board member, helped beef up the club’s academy in order to gain category two status.

With those structures now in place, it’s more a case of maintenance than construction when it comes to the junior set-up.

Scotsman Wilson, 32, has joined Premier League Southampton as director of scouting and recruitment.

Having previously worked for Falkirk and Watford, he moved to Town in August 2012.

A trusted ally of chairman Dean Hoyle and chief executive Nigel Clibbens, Wilson became a director at the start of 2014.

He played a central role in recruiting Chris Powell as manager back in September.

And he worked closely with the team chief to identify transfer targets for this summer.

Wilson’s departure came as a blow to both Hoyle and Clibbens.

The pair have taken their time in deciding the exact nature of the role and the skills set required by candidates.

It’s believed the club are now ready to whittle down a five-strong shortlist.

Town have previously played down links with outgoing Brentford sporting director Frank McParland.
