Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robins reckons both Adam Hammill and Danny Carr have some growing up to do – but for different reasons.

The manager was frustrated by Hammill’s response to being substituted by Sean Scannell an hour into Saturday’s Championship clash.

The 25-year-old close-season recruit from Wolves apologised to both Robins and his teammates after the game and said on Twitter: “My reaction was poor. Frustration!”

Robins is set to fine Hammill, who played under him at Barnsley – and not for the first time.

“Adam is going to end up paying us to play,” he said.

“Nothing really surprises me with Adam. That’s just him – he needs to grow up. He’s been to see me and apologised and that’s what happens. I fine him and we get on with it, until the next time.”

Robins, who has top scorer James Vaughan suspended for another game yet and out-of-favour frontman Martin Paterson due for surgery on a hand injury today, gave a league debut to 19-year-old Carr, who has been in rich scoring form for the Under 21s, as a 73rd-minute replacement for Keith Southern.

“Keith was unfortunate to come off, because I thought he was excellent, but I needed to get another striker on,” explained the boss, who signed former Reading academy player Carr from Dulwich Hamlet.

“You can see there is potential with Danny. He has pace and he has shown he can score goals.

“It was his first taste of league football and Wigan are a difficult team to play against, but he is capable.

“He is naive, but that is understandable. Danny needs that little but of luck, because if he gets the run of the ball, he will put it in the back of the net.”

Ollie Norwood notched his first goal of the season to level the game in first-half stoppage time and Robins revealed he has been working closely with the ex-Manchester United man.

“We want to get him into advanced positions where he can hurt teams and he did that. It was the kind of finish we know he’s capable of,” he said.
