He's come up with the correct team selection and tactics to beat Millwall and Wolves.

Can Chris Powell now make it a hat trick when Town go into Roses battle with Blackburn Rovers?

Ewood Park hasn’t been the happiest of hunting grounds in recent times, with Town’s last win there coming on Boxing Day 1986, when Steve Smith was in charge following the sacking of Mick Buxton.

But Powell and his players will certainly cross the Pennines with spirits and confidence high as they chase a first victory in eight visits to the venue.

They have the chance to go level on 14 points with their hosts, but Blackburn, 11th to Town’s 18th in the Championship table, will have been stung by Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

And they will be extremely eager to put things right in front if their own fans.

Town will take a good following themselves, and the travelling supporters will be eager to see the teamsheet as Town play their 11th match of an eventful campaign and their last before the second international break.

Nine points from three matches would be a great way to go into it, and another display of defensive resolve will be crucial against Jordan Rhodes and Co.

Powell went with three centre-backs against Millwall and two at Wolves, where he took the bold decision to relegate Nahki Wells, who netted twice against the Londoners, to the bench.

The five across midfield has worked well in both the last two games, and in Grant Holt , Town have the right man to play the lone striker role.

The Wigan Athletic loanee posed the centre-backs of both Millwall and Wolves plenty of problems, and more of the same, and a goal, would be great against Rovers.

While Holt is hogging the headlines, and rightly so after his immediate impact on the team and his robust style of play, which is much appreciated by the Town fans, Harry Bunn is also making his mark, and seems to be really benefitting from starting games as opposed to coming off the bench as he did last season.

He grabbed his third goal in Town colours at Wolves – this time from a Holt cross – and all of them have come away from the John Smith’s Stadium.

Let’s hope for a fourth at the famous old Lancashire venue and further proof that Town are moving in the right direction.
