Chris Powell is hoping to enjoy a London double this weekend.

After his return to Charlton Athletic with Huddersfield Town, he’ll be at Wembley for Sunday’s Capital One Cup final.

The 45-year-old from Lambeth grew up supporting Tottenham Hotspur, who take on Chelsea in the showpiece.

“I’ve got a ticket for myself and my son, and we’re looking forward to it,” smiled Powell, who will be back in London on Tuesday, when Town face Brentford.

“But of course the main business is getting a win at Charlton, and we’re all looking forward to the game.”

Town head South in search of a third win in four away trips, having drawn the other game at Bournemouth two weeks ago.

After enduring five successive defeats on the road late last year, Powell said the turning point came at Rotherham United on Boxing Day.

That’s despite his side having to make do with a point after throwing away a two-goal lead.

Powell continued: “We came so close there, and I think it gave the players confidence.

“We actually lost the next away game at Middlesbrough, but it was a tight match and a narrow defeat.

“After that we went to Wigan Athletic and Millwall and won both games, but in different circumstances.

“We kept our composure and got a late goal at Wigan.

“Then we beat Millwall despite having Nahki Wells sent off.

“That gave us a big boost before the trip to Bournemouth, who are right up there at the top of the table.

“I don’t think many people gave us much of a chance down there, especially after we wen behind.

“But the players stuck to their jobs and we equalised with a really good team goal.”
