Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell was left "angry and embarrassed" by his side's wretched performance in a 2-0 defeat to Rotherham United.

The Millers bossed proceedings throughout as Town struggled from the get-go to cause any real problems for the visitors' defence and were found wanting for the third game in succession defensively as they conceded goals eight and nine in a miserable week.

And boss Powell left his players under no illusions as to how unimpressed he was with their display, saying: “I’m angry and embarrassed.

“We quite clearly didn’t get going from the first minute.

“I can take losing if we put in a performance, but we quite clearly didn’t do that today.

“We started slowly and I thought our decision-making was poor.

“Joe Lolley was having some success and got our fans going, but as a team we weren’t there. We were nowhere near our last home performance.

“Rotherham quite clearly wanted it more than us today, and we cannot have that. We have to put in a performance over 90 minutes.

“We weren’t at the races, which has been the case three times this week. We can’t let that continue, because the fans don’t deserve it.

“You have to compete before you can show your skill and we haven’t done that.”

Town made three changes to the starting lineup which was thrashed at Brentford but it failed to yield any sort of response from the players and Powell pulled no punches in his assessment of the team, after admitting each and every player in the starting XI was off colour.

“It wasn’t one or two – I can look at the whole team today, which isn’t great,” he added.

“There will be times when one or two players are off their game and the other nine or 10 drag them through, but we didn’t have that today. I’ll always do my best to back them, but I can’t after today’s performance.

“We missed players of the calibre of Nahki Wells and Harry Bunn today, who have scored over 20 goals for us this season; any team would miss that.

“However, that created opportunities for others. If you don’t take that chance when you have it, that doesn’t give me a hard decision.

“Every player’s position is now under threat, because we didn’t perform.

“I don’t want to make wholesale changes, but we didn’t do the blue and white shirt any justice whatsoever today. I can’t take one crumb of comfort from today.

“Now we really have to show each other and our supporters that we can come through what has quite clearly been a poor week for us; probably the worst week this season since I’ve been here.”
