Mark Robins reflected on Huddersfield Town’s lack of impact up front as top dogs Leicester took their Championship goal haul to 82 and gave themselves a great chance of reaching a century of points.

Nigel Pearson’s Foxes have 99 ahead of their final game at home to Doncaster on Saturday lunchtime, when Town visit Watford.

Robins, who after his side sealed second-tier survival and the visitors claimed the title last midweek thought the game had a “testimonial feel”, said: “From our keeper up to the final third, we were okay.

“We kept ball okay without really going anywhere, and we were short up top.

“Nahki Wells worked hard but was isolated. With him alone up there, you need others to go and support him.

“It was good to give Duane Holmes a start, and now he has another hour under his belt.

“We managed to get Philip Billing on the pitch for a cameo and also Joe Lolley, who looked bright.”

While Robins made three changes to his starting side (captain Peter Clarke and Sean Scannell came in alongside Holmes) there were six for Leicester.

“Whichever side they put out is a good side,” added Robins, once a Leicester player.

“Their players are difficult to mark, difficult to pick up and difficult to play against.

“When they put that little bit of a spurt in, they can cause problems.

“Sometimes you have to hold your hands up. Individually they have better players than us.

“But they have been together a fair while and they are top of the league.”

Pearson said: “The 100 point total has given the players something to focus on.

“All we can do is keep playing well and hopefully reach the 100 or 102-point mark.

“We have illustrated we have a really strong squad and are capable of still performing at this stage of the season.

“It can be difficult, but the players have got to try to enjoy the experience of being champions early. The only way you enjoy that is to play well and win.

“We had a bit of a blip when we played Brighton after promotion was secured (Leicester lost 4-1 at home), but I think since then, the performances we have produced have been very good.”
