Mark Robins says he has specific transfer targets as he prepares for the close-season recruitment programme which he believes will produce a Huddersfield Town team capable of mounting a meaningful Championship challenge.

The manager, whose side finished 17th in the second tier after their 4-1 win at Watford on Saturday, has taken up contract extension options on defender Murray Wallace and keeper Ed Wilczynski and offered a new deal to frontman Danny Ward.

Robins, who has had strikers Jon Stead and Martin Paterson out on loan at Bradford and Bristol City respectively, says he is working to create space to bring in fresh faces, and that Town will continue to “tick the boxes” when it comes to Financial Fair Play.

“I know what I want to do in terms of positions, and now it’s a case of putting names to them, and I have several in mind,” said the John Smith’s Stadium boss, already linked with the likes of defenders Cyrus Christie (Coventry) and Craig Cathcart (Blackpool) as well as Crystal Palace striker Stephen Dobbie.

“There are players going out in order for others to come in, because we have to make sure we have the financial capability to enhance the squad the way I want to.”

While the bulk of his players will begin post-season breaks, Robins is waiting to hear whether Paterson and midfielder Ollie Norwood will be in Northern Ireland’s squad for their South American tour.

Michael O’Neill’s side will play in Uruguay on May 30 and Chile on June 4 as both countries prepare for the World Cup in Brazil.
