Mark Robins is ready to step up Huddersfield Town’s bid for new signings.

With less than two weeks to the opening Championship clash against Bournemouth at the John Smith’s Stadium, Robins confirmed Town are in the market for further arrivals.

Summer capture Lee Peltier captained Town in Saturday’s 1-0 pre-season defeat at Scunthorpe, while Robins’ other closed-season signing, keeper Joe Murphy from Coventry, was on the bench.

“We are looking and we would certainly like to add,” said Robins, who is assessing the fitness of striker James Vaughan (calf) ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Sheffield United,

“There is definitely a resolve to do it because we haven’t got that strength in depth.

“Once we get the right people in the right slot then maybe we can push the button and try and finalise something, but they have to be the right people.

“There is no point bringing someone in for the sake of it and spending money that’s hard earned.”

Robins would not reveal targets but added: “I am focused on the areas I want to strengthen, but it’s finding those players at the right money who are going to be able to come in and go straight into the team.

“I don’t really want to be getting squad players, I want to be bringing people who are going to enhance the group we’ve got and make us stronger.

“There are different elements to that – the cost is one, the right character is another and the right quality for the slot – and you can never tell when those things are going to come together. When they do and it’s right for the club, we’ll look to do it.”

Danny Ward (hamstring), Anthony Gerrard (calf) and Oscar Gobern (toe) will not be considered for the match at Bramall Lane.

“It’s too early for them, they need to do some training because of the length of time they’ve been out,” explained Robins.

“We will have a look at James Vaughan and see if he’s ready to have a go and, hopefully, by the time we get to the season we will have pretty much a full complement to pick from.”
