SIMON GRAYSON sends Huddersfield Town into action against Hartlepool tonight with the simple message – learn the lessons of the last two games, but don’t dwell on them.

It’s a return to the Galpharm for the manager after his promotion-chasing charges squandered leads of two, then three goals, in League I draws at Stevenage and Bury.

Town were 2-0 home victors over Exeter in Grayson’s first game just 10 days ago, and the boss urged: “Let’s get back to that kind of performance.

“We’ve studied the Bury game very closely, we know what we did well and what we did poorly and what we need to work on to make us better for the rest of the season.

“Let’s not forget the positives. For 60 minutes, our movement was good, we created chances and we scored goals.

“But while I want us to be attack-minded, we have to close the back door as well. We have to retain the ball better and stop giving the opposition space.”

Grayson, whose fourth-placed side are five points behind second-placed Sheffield United, added: “We are a good team, but need to go a bit further in terms of overall play.

“And we’ve got a great chance to put the Bury match to bed with two home games running (Rochdale visit on Saturday).”

Hartlepool head to Huddersfield in ninth place after Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with MK Dons and keen to maintain their play-off push.

“They’re in the top third of the division and work very hard for their manager (Neale Cooper),” continued Grayson.

“But I want us to dictate the pattern of the game and replicate the kind of performance we produced against Exeter.”

Grayson confirmed Danny Ward, who came off at Gigg Lane after being hit by cramp, is fine for tonight while skipper Peter Clarke is close to a return after surgery on a double hernia.

Ex-Hartlepool midfielder Tommy Miller, who has also had a hernia operation, is aiming to step up his rehabilitation after comeback sessions with physio Dave Buckby.

Cooper, who returned for a second spell as Hartlepool manager in December, when he succeeded ex-Town boss Mick Wadsworth, must do without new loan signing Samuel Adjei.

Newcastle’s Swedish winger has returned to St James’ Park for treatment on a hamstring injury picked up on his debut against MK.

Lancashire’s Paul Tierney, in charge when Town faced Bradford in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy earlier this season, is tonight’s referee.
