Conor Coady could be on his way out of Huddersfield Town – if reports are to be believed.

The midfielder is being linked with Championship rivals Wolves, Derby County and Cardiff City.

Town have no financial necessity to cash in on the 22-year-old ex-Liverpool player.

But the arrival of former Middlesbrough man Dean Whitehead means they have numbers in that area of the squad.

And they could be tempted by the prospect of a sizeable profit on a player who cost them £375,000 when he moved from Anfield last August.

Although he only arrived on the eve of last season, Coady featured in all but one of Town’s 49 league and cup games.

He scored three goals, one of them in Town’s 3-1 win at Wolves, and contributed three assists.

Improving on both those figures is among his targets for the new campaign – whatever colours he ends up wearing.

Coady came through the Liverpool youth system and as well as skippering the Under 21s, made two first-team appearances, one of them in the Premier League and the other the Europa League, during the 2012-13 season.

He spent the following campaign on loan at League I Sheffield United, making 50 appearances and scoring six goals.

Town’s Championship rivals Brentford have broken their transfer record by splashing out £2.1m on FC Twente defender defender Andreas Bjelland.
