Huddersfield Town have sold midfielder Conor Coady to Wolves for £2m.

The deal between the Championship rivals was completed after the 22-year-old, who was just 12 months into a three-year Town contract, today passed a medical in the West Midlands.

Town paid Liverpool £375,000 when they signed Coady on the eve of last season.

He featured in all but one of the John Smith’s Stadium club’s 49 league and cup games and was named Young Player of the Year.

Wolves were reported to be interested in him this time last year.

They already have a surfeit of central midfielders.

But boss Kenny Jackett has played down suggestions on of them, Kevin McDonald, will be sold to Fulham.

Jackett has already signed one midfielder, Jed Wallace, from Portsmouth.

He can also call on Jack Price, David Edwards, Lee Evans, George Saville, Tommy Rowe, Michael Jacobs and James Henry.

Town recently signed experienced midfielder Dean Whitehead from Middlesbrough.

Boss Chris Powell also has Jacob Butterfield, Town’s Player of the Year last season, Jonathan Hogg and Duane Holmes.

And it’s hoped Danish teenager Philip Billing will push on.

Coady came through the Liverpool youth system and as well as skippering the Under 21s, made two first-team appearances in 2012-13.

He spent the following campaign on loan at League I Sheffield United, making 50 appearances and scoring six goals.

Powell said: “We’re sad to see Conor leave, but this transfer represents outstanding value for Huddersfield Town and we believe it is the right move for the club on balance.

“Conor also expressed his desire to pursue this opportunity, but we made it clear that the club would only sell him if the terms were right.

“There was no cheap deal to be had. Once it was acceptable to the club, the move suited all three parties.

“Conor is a great young footballer and a fantastic individual, so I’m sure I speak for everyone connected with Huddersfield Town when I wish him the best of luck at his new club.

“Our overall plan will not change because of this move.

“Even before Conor’s departure, we were already working hard behind the scenes to recruit the right players in key positions.

“That hard work will continue as we prepare for the new season and target further improvement.”
