Emyr Huws will be back on familiar territory at Birmingham City.

Huddersfield Town’s on-loan Wigan Athletic midfielder made 17 appearances for the St Andrew’s side back in 2013-14.

Then on loan from Manchester City, the Welsh international’s long-range strike at Middlesbrough won Birmingham’s Goal of the Season award.

Huws, who scored twice for Blues, made his full Wales debut against Iceland during his spell in the West Midlands.

Birmingham City (1) v Huddersfield Town (2) - Emyr Huws and Jonathan Hogg.

Now capped five times and aiming for a 14th Town appearance, Huws says his Birmingham stint was very beneficial.

“You learn a lot about real football, first-team football. The emotions, what it means to the supporters,” he said.

“You experience emotions you have never experienced before and you grow as a player.”

Huws played in two midfield roles, sitting and more advanced, under ex-Town boss Lee Clark at Birmingham.

It’s been a similar story at Town for the Llanelli-born player, who has scored four times.

He was involved in a relegation battle at Blues, who needed a last-day draw at Bolton Wanderers to escape.

“We didn’t shy away from it, we gave it our best, and in the end we pulled through as a team, as a club,” he said.
