‘Let ’em all come down to The Den, we’ll only have to beat ’em again,’ goes the Millwall club song which booms out just before kick-off.

But that hasn’t happened much of late, with the Lions unable to score in their last 526 minutes of league football and having claimed only one home win in the Championship since December.

Now Town must add to that dismal run by building on solid performances to date with a first league win of the term.

For those who saw Town dismantled 4-0 in South London last September, when a bleak day was compounded by Jack Hunt’s sending off, Millwall’s slump was unexpected.

Kenny Jackett’s side did make the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but they were sucked into a relegation scrap which also involved Town, who comfortably beat them 3-0 at the John Smith’s in April.

That was the start of seven league games without a win for the Londoners, the last two of them under Steve Lomas, who replaced Jackett during the summer.

The former St Johnstone manager’s links with West Ham, Millwall’s arch-rivals from across the Thames, ensured he needed to hit the ground running to win over the always passionate South Bermondsey faithful.

But that hasn’t been the case, and defeats by Yeovil and Ipswich mean the ex-Northern Ireland midfielder is already feeling the heat, with Millwall chairman John Berylson seeing fit to plead for patience from the stands.

The American businessman and Harvard graduate has rightly pointed out that the Millwall squad includes a lot of new arrivals.

And Town must be wary of the likes of Steve Morison, back at his old stomping ground on loan from Leeds, ex-Middlesbrough men Scott McDonald and Nick Bailey and wily midfielders Shaun Derry, on loan from QPR, and Richard Chaplow, recruited from Premier League Southampton.

A first clean sheet of the campaign for Alex Smithies would come in very useful as Town try to play on the home fans’ frustration.

And the return of Jonathan Hogg after he missed last Saturday’s QPR clash through illness should add some extra bite to the engine room as Mark Robins’ side again try to pass their way to a three-point haul.

It won’t be easy, but it’s certainly a winnable game.

Stat attack

Neither of the Lions’ Dens (the current one dates from 1993) have been happy hunting grounds for Town, with just three wins in 20. There have been four draws, with 16 goals scored and 40 conceded.

The 1922-23 FA Cup second round (modern fourth) took Town to Millwall for the first time. The game was goalless, but Town, bossed by Herbert Chapman (left) won the replay 3-0.

Town have twice won 3-1 at Millwall. Brian Clark (2) and Colin Dobson (left) scored in March 1967, Mark Lillis, Dave Cowling and Phil Wilson in April 1982. Both games were in the original Second Division.

Last season, Chris Wood (28 & 61minutes), James Henry (79) and Liam Trotter (88) earned the Lions a 4-0 win in front of 11,066. Town defender Jack Hunt, left, was sent off for dissent.

Millwall v Huddersfield Town: How the bookies see it

Town's stalemate against QPR was a point gained in the eyes of the bookies, and with two of their potentially toughest fixtures already out of the way, Mark Robins’ side will be confident of picking up their first league victory sooner rather than later.

However, they’re 13/5 underdogs via BetVictor to grab that win at Millwall, Stan James’s 11/10 favourites, and bet365 also price Town at 23/10 to land another share of the spoils.

Both of Town’s matches so far have produced fewer than three goals and with this one odds-on at 8/11 (Stan James) to follow suit, some punters might like the look of William Hill’s 6/1 marked against a 1-1 scoreline at The New Den, where it’s 17/4 courtesy of BetVictor to be all square at the end of each half.

The hosts however, are pointless after their opening couple so Robins’s side have every reason to be confident and Paddy Power make them 4/1 to convert that into a victory by a one-goal margin.

Alternatively, it’s 10/1 With Stan James for Town to grab the game’s only goal and Winner.com chalk them up at 5/1 to be in front at the end of each half.

James Vaughan is 13/2 (bet365) to set Town on their way with the opening goal, which is 6/4 via the same firm to come from any of Robins’ players, and BetVictor quote Vaughan at 21/10 to strike at any point.

Betway go 17/20 about both teams finding the net and it’s 5/1 at Skybet for the visitors to combine a success with a clean sheet.
