Reading away according to Opta

Here’s what Opta is saying about the Reading match this weekend:

  • The Royals are without a win against Huddersfield in the last five league games (D2 L3), with their last home victory coming in August 2001.
  • Indeed, the Terriers have racked up 11 goals in five league games against Reading, scoring two or more in each of the last four meetings.
  • The Royals are averaging the highest possession percentage in the division so far this season (63%).
  • 19 points in their opening eight games is Huddersfield’s best points tally at this stage in their entire history; their previous best was 17 points in 1994/95, a season they won promotion to the second tier under Neil Warnock.
  • Reading are one of three sides to have received two Championship red cards so far this season along with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, and had Garath McCleary sent off in their most recent game against Barnsley.
  • Only Fulham’s Kevin McDonald (587) has attempted more passes than the Terriers’ Aaron Mooy (586) in the Championship this season.

Dean Whitehead

Good interview from Dean Whitehead here.

Here’s a little snippet:

I don’t think anybody outside the club expected us to make the start we have.

But as players and staff we are all together and we realised we had a good chance from the outset. It’s no surprise to us.

Ultimately we don’t really care what people say about us outside the club.

We’ve seen plenty of fireworks on the pitch already...

Have a read of this from the Huddersfield Town’s Supporters Association’s James Chisem about how the club are bucking the trend in modern football.

Here’s a snippet:

The challenge, as ever, is to balance the old with the new, the extraordinary with the necessary, and the interests of clubs and supporters with the interests of sponsors and businesses. No mean feat, right?

Well, I think that Town have done an outstanding job on all three fronts. The club and its commercial partners seem to be pulling in the same direction, united around a common purpose and sense of community spirit.

Sounds like Town, this.

There are good signs. People are feeling good and in high spirits.

The work we have done in pre-season and on the training pitch have been good. We are prepared for everything.

There is no excuse for downfall on a Saturday because we are prepared.

Everyone is buying into it.

Beerens on atmosphere at Reading

There is a good spirit in the dressing room.

The last couple of games we have won - it’s a good feeling.

There is a confidence with us at how we want to play and the style we want to play.

I think I am doing well. But of course I need to score more goals.

The style we play it is nice to play on the wing. Both for me and G.

We are confident and will fight to win every game.

Huddersfield have 19 points already. They are a decent team - we will have to play very well to beat them.

Euro 2020 Beer

I know it’s a long way off but there’s been a bit of research as to the price of beer in each of the host cities - and London isn’t even the priciest!

Fans after a cut-price-pint might want to head to Budapest in Hungary as at £1.11 a pint, the Hungarian capital has the cheapest beer of any Euro 2020 host city according to data taken from pintprice.com

Bucharest, Romania, has the next cheapest beer at £1.30 a pint while Copenhagen is the most expensive at a whopping £5.08 a pint.
Dublin has the next most expensive beer at £4.41 a pint followed by Rome (£4.24) and London (£3.90).

Looks like I’m off to Hungary then!

Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish

The Aston Villa midfielder has done it again.

This time he’s had a party until 7.45am, keeping guests awake in a Birmingham hotel and inhaling laughing gas - again.

Here’s what the Daily Mail revealed about the incident today.

The Aston Villa midfielder, 20, infuriated guests at a Birmingham hotel with a raucous early-hours party after his club’s 0-0 draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday.

A source told Sportsmail that Grealish and his friends woke up stunned hotel residents with an unruly bash in their room that featured balloons containing nitrous oxide.

Sources close to Grealish, who had to apologise to then Villa manager Tim Sherwood in 2015 after pictures emerged of him inhaling from balloons, admit the balloons were present at the party but they deny that Grealish inhaled from them.

Some stunned guests sought refunds from the hotel after being kept awake long into the early hours. One source said: ‘The noise was incredible. There were huge numbers of people inside the room and it was lawless. The other guests had no chance of getting any sleep.’

Joey Barton for Town?
Joey Barton for Town?

So it looks like Joey Barton will be leaving Rangers after being suspended for three weeks after a training ground bust-up and being investigated for betting activity.

But we want to know if you’d take the former Manchester City midfielder at Town.

Barton may not fit into David Wagner’s system, but he’s been promoted three times - with Newcastle, QPR and Burnley - and would be available on a short-term contract.

So, what do you think?
