TOWN came from two goals behind to draw 3-3 with West Bromwich Albion in an exciting game at Leeds Road.

With five minutes to go, and trailing 3-2, Len Quested grabbed a dramatic late equaliser to ensure Town took a point from the game.

West Brom had raced into a two goal lead 30 minutes into the first half, before Town rallied to draw level before the interval.

The last time these two sides met, Albion ended Town’s 27 game unbeaten run at home, and Town started like they were out for revenge.

An attack down the right earned Town a corner, and they came close to converting the chance but the ball was scrambled away.

Town could have scored moments later when Jimmy Glazzard was put through one on one, but the Town forward hit straight at Jimmy Sanders in the West Brom goal.

Against the run of play, Nicholls put Albion ahead after 12 minutes from close range.

Despite going a goal behind, Town continued to look the better of the sides.

Only a last-gasp tackle from Williams stopped Vic Metcalfe from a certain equaliser.

However, just after the half hour mark, Albion doubled their lead, again scoring on the counter.

Intelligent play between Ryan and Griffin built up the move, and when the ball was put across the Town goalmouth, Lee was there to apply the finish.

Three minutes later Glazzard reduced the visitors’ lead, rising above Sanders and heading the ball into the Albion net.

With a minute to go in the half, and continuing to press for the equaliser, Town eventually got what they deserved.

A magnificent effort from Willie Watson lobbed over the back-pedalling Sanders and dipped just under the bar, ensuring Town would go in level at the break.

The second half started as the first had ended, with Town pressure.

But, like the first half, it was the visitors who were the more clinical and they took the lead thanks to a second goal from Lee.

Town tried to respond immediately, but a series of blocks and well-timed tackles frustrated the home side.

With minutes to go, Town came close to the equaliser.

Ron Staniforth won the header from a corner, only to see his effort deflect off Millward on the line for another corner.

The Town defender stayed forward and won the next header, and when the ball rebounded to Quested, the midfielder headed home, delighting the Leeds Road fans in a crowed of 28,372.
