Popular old boy Geoff Hutt says he wants Huddersfield Town to wipe the smile off the face of fellow former player Jack Hunt.

The Sheffield Wednesday right-back returns to the John Smith’s Stadium targeting a Championship double over Town, where he came through the academy and made 121 first-team appearances.

Hunt helped Carlos Carvalhal’s play-off chasing side spoil David Wagner’s first match as head coach with a 3-1 win at Hillsborough back in November.

Left-back Hutt, who also came through Town’s youth system and played 277 times between 1969 and 1976, has no complaints over that result.

But the man who won promotion to the top flight with Town in 1970, then shone on the First Division stage, wasn’t keen on Hunt’s post-match comments.

The 22-year-old, who left Town for Crystal Palace in a £2m move in September 2013 and, after a loan spell, joined Wednesday for the same fee in January, described beating Town as “the best feeling ever”.

He said: “I love beating them, it’s the best feeling ever. I absolutely love it.”

Hutt, now 66 and still a regular at the John Smith’s Stadium, said: “We all like to win, and that’s fine, but I found those comments unnecessary and a bit disrespectful.

“We don’t know what might have been said when he left, but Jack shouldn’t forget that he got his chance with Town.

“He got good backing from both the club and the fans, but I doubt he’ll get a great reception this time.

“I like him as a full-back, especially going forward, but to be honest, I hope we wipe that smile off his face.”

With Wednesday bringing a sell-out allocation of almost 4,000 fans, the game should generate a great atmosphere.

Hutt added: “I’ve been a little disappointed by the crowds since we got back into the Championship.

“But with the brand of football being played under David Wagner and the season-card offer, things should improve.

“We’re heading in the right direction, and if we can put away even more of the chances we create, then who knows how far we can go?”
