Having claimed a first win at Newcastle United since the 1953/54 season, Huddersfield Town now seek a first success against Aston Villa in Birmingham since 1950/51 when they visit for Tuesday's Championship clash.

Johnny McKenna sealed the 1-0 top-flight victory for a Town side managed by ex-Villa player George Stephenson.

George was the younger brother of legendary former Town skipper and manager Clem Stephenson, who also played for Villa.

McKenna was a popular Northern Ireland international winger signed from Linfield from £6,500 in 1948.

The Town side also included the likes of centre-half Don McEvoy, winger Vic Metcalfe and midfielder Harold Hassall, who like Metcalfe, was soon to win an England call-up.

It was an injury-plagued campaign for forward Jimmy Glazzard, who formed a notable partnership with Metcalfe but missed the game at Villa.

Town finished 19th in Division I, Villa 15th in a final table topped by Tottenham Hotspur.

In total, Town have played 32 league games at Villa Park, winning only three and drawing nine.

Their last visit there was for a Division II (now Championship) match in 1987/88.

Duncan Shearer sealed a 1-1 draw for Malcolm Macdonald’s side, who were relegated while Villa were promoted.

There have been four visits to Villa Park in the FA Cup (two wins apiece).

And the ground was also the scene of Town’s first-ever League Cup tie in 1960/61, when the home side were 4-1 winners in the second round.

Villa Park also hosted Town’s 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle in a League Cup second round second replay in 1963/64.
