Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell reflected on a much-improved performance and beamed: "That was just the work-out we were after."

A crowd of 4,633 watched the 0-0 draw against Deportivo de La Coruna at the John Smith's which featured a man of the match display from Jason Davidson and a standing ovation for fellow new arrival Kyle Dempsey.

Striker James Vaughan also got his first run-out of pre-season and came through fine, so Powell is content as he starts preparations for the final friendly against Barnsley on Saturday.

"We needed that run-out after what happened at Rochdale and it asked different questions of us, but we dealt with it well," said Powell, who hopes to have Ishmael Miller in full training on Friday.

"They liked to recycle the ball and I thought we had a good shape about us.

"I was pleased to get a lot of minutes out of Jason Davidson after his trip to the other side of the world, and I thought it was nice of the fans to give Kyle Dempsey a standing ovation, but it was good all round.

"It would have been nice to have won, but we did a lot of good things and now we have to build on that."
