James Vaughan won't be going on Huddersfield Town's pre-season trip to Spain - but trialist centre-back Martin Cranie will.

Injury-plagued striker Vaughan missed the 3-1 friendly win at Guiseley after injuring a leg during training and will remain in England for treatment.

It's expected he will be sidelined for a fortnight.

Former England Under 21 player Cranie, now 28, is a free agent after leaving Barnsley, where he was skipper.

He played the first 45 minutes at Guiseley, where Town won with goals by Nahki Wells, Jacob Butterfield and Joe Lolley.

And he will be among the players who fly out from Manchester tomorrow for a week of training and a game against Leyton Orient at a sports complex near Marbella.

So too will new midfield signing Kyle Dempsey, who missed the Guiseley game in order to return home to Cumbria and get ready for the Spain having completed his move from Carlisle United on Friday.

Powell said of the Guiseley visit: "We got what we wanted from our first friendly, a good work-out and a win.

"Although Harry Bunn, Duane Holmes and William Boyle did a bit extra, for most of the lads it was a solid 45-minute stint.

"It's about getting rid of the cobwebs and getting used to games, crowds and playing under pressure again.

"We looked positive and scored three good goals and now I want us to move things up a level when we go to Spain."

"I'd have liked a clean sheet and I thought they got a dubious penalty to get their goal, but I'm always going to say that!"

Powell shelved plans to play Ishmael Miller at Guiseley as a precaution after the striker felt some discomfort during the warm-up.
