The next few days will be important ones for new Huddersfield Town signing Jordy Hiwula.

Chris Powell’s 20-year-old strike import from Manchester City has had a whirlwind introduction to life at the Championship club.

Having put pen to paper on a three-year deal last Friday, Hiwula immediately flew to Town’s training camp in Marbella and played a half in the following day’s 2-1 friendly win over Leyton Orient in Spain.

Hiwula, who has had previous loan spells at Yeovil and Walsall, returned home with Powell’s squad on Sunday, trained on Monday and then got another 45 minutes in the 3-1 defeat by National League Grimsby at Blundell Park on Tuesday night.

It all means his feet have barely touched the ground since he decided to make the switch from the Etihad Stadium in search of regular first-team football, so a few settled sessions at PPG Canalside will help no end in the build-up to Saturday’s next friendly at Rochdale.

“Jordy has trained twice with us so far and had two 45s, so he is kind of finding his feet a little bit – I don’t think he knows everyone’s names just yet,” said Powell.

We are just trying to integrate him as soon as we can, but it’s been hard as he’s had two strike partners in Nahki Wells and now Harry Bunn (in the game time he’s had).

“His movement is really very, very good, though, and we now have to start implementing exactly what we want, and we have to do that from Rochdale, through the home friendly (against Deportivo) and definitely at Barnsley.”
