LEE CLARK was today remaining tight-lipped on reports that Anton Robinson is set to become his eighth pre-season capture.
League I rivals AFC Bournemouth say Town have made two bids for the 25-year-old central midfielder and that he has been given permission to hold talks at the Galpharm - with rumours suggesting a medical to take place today.
Robinson, signed from non-league Weymouth in January 2009, didn’t figure in Bournemouth’s 3-1 home friendly win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
But boss Clark wouldn’t comment on the former England semi-professional international, who played against his side in last season’s play-offs.
“I’m not talking about another club’s player, it’s as simple as that,” said Clark of the London-born former Millwall junior.
Robinson, who has made 117 appearances for Bournemouth, scoring 10 goals, has a year remaining on his contract at Dean Court.
“We don’t want Anton to go and it is a very awkward situation,” club chairman Eddie Mitchell told the Bournemouth Echo newspaper.
“We had a better offer from Huddersfield, but it is difficult because he is a key member of our squad.
“However, we are in a situation where, in six months’ time, he could talk to other clubs and could leave for nothing next summer.
“The ball is in Huddersfield’s court and we are waiting to hear back from them. The offer is pretty much there but we have gone back with a small counter.
“Personal terms haven’t been sorted so it’s far from a done deal, but things are moving that way. If Anton is not prepared to commit for another year and someone is interested in him, then we have to give him the chance to speak to them.”
Loaned-out Town duo Jimmy Spencer and Chris Atkinson featured in friendlies for Cheltenham and Darlington respectively on Saturday.
League II Cheltenham were 4-0 victors at Bath while Blue Square Premier Darlington chalked up a 6-1 win at Whitby.
Ex-Town right-back Lee Peltier played the full match for Leicester as they were beaten 2-1 in the glamour home clash with Real Madrid.
